Nokia switch to android if Windows Phone 8 fails ?

In an interview aired on a Finnish TV, Risto Siilasmaa, a member of the Nokia board of directors, said that Android is the company's "backup plan" if Windows Phone 8 fails.




Many people are going to be quite happy if in fact Nokia joins the Android camp and starts manufacturing some truly high-end devices

Is HTC One X better than Samsung's Galaxy S 3?

Samsung and HTC are easily two of the most recognizable brands when it comes to Android. And, this year, neither are pulling any punches. Both Samsung and HTC have announced and launched their flagships (at least overseas) for the year: the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X. Packing some seriously impressive specifications, the two devices are widely regarded as two of the best smartphones to date and are receiving a lot of attention. The beautiful, unibody design and topnotch performance of the HTC One X has garnered lots of love from reviewers and consumers alike. And the Galaxy S III, which has just recently landed in the hands of reviewers, has received quite a lot of praise, too.

Now the question is: which is better? As these things usually go, there is no straight answer.

By sales, the One X has come up short of HTC's expectations for Q1. But it's still unclear whether that can be attributed to the ITC bans on One devices due to a patent infringement case with Apple. The Galaxy S III, on the other hand, has exceeded expectations, having already been pre-ordered by over nine million people on May 18. The device has since opened for pre-order on countless other carriers.
But sales and pre-sales hardly speak for the quality of the devices themselves. They're offered in different markets, on different carriers and HTC is on the spur of a pretty terrible year, whereas Samsung had an awesome year in 2011. Even if you look at the spec sheets, there's no real winner. The two devices are neck and neck, and each specification is a trade-off for the respective one on the compatriot device.
HTC, however, believes their handset takes the cake. (Of course, right?) Android Authority managed to get their hands on some internal documents called "special packs" for their HTC sales team, in an attempt to spark another strong sales push. The packet consists of several comparisons of different specifications and aspects of each device. And, as Chris Smith of Android Authority summarizes from the photos, the conclusion is the HTC One X has:

• Better speed/faster – Quad-core 1.5GHz vs Quad-core 1.4
• Better camera – 70% better quality with f2.0, Faster: 4fps/99 shot, Faster startup: 0.7s vs Poor low light with f2.6, Slower: 3fps/20shots, Slower startup: 0.99sec.
• Better sound – Beats Audio vs “none”
• Better screen – Brighter & cleaner, higher density vs “Dull Bluish,” lower density
• Better durability – Polycarbonate vs Plastic
• Better design – “World acclaimed” vs “Disappointing”

HTC even offers some counters for some of the features of the One X that could be considered "flaws". For instance, the Galaxy S III may be 0.3mm thinner, but the "HTC One X is lighter, feels slimmer and looks way better." While the Galaxy S III has a removable battery, HTC claims the "One X's battery can easily last a full day." (After a month with a One X, I totally disagree.) And even though the Galaxy S III has expandable memory via microSD card slot, the HTC One X (global version) has 32GB built-in storage and 25GB of free Dropbox storage (for 24 months).

What say you, ladies and gents? Which phone takes the cake? HTC One X? Or Galaxy S III?
It's impossible for many of us to say first-hand which phone looks, feels or operates better. Only our own Aaron Baker, the others who have received review units and people overseas can attest to those attributes. But, on paper, there is a clear winner for me.

I, of course, reserve my final opinion until I get some hands-on time with the Galaxy S III, but I'm inclined to say the One X is my top pick, based solely on the entire package. Specs do carry some weight. But when you're dealing with smartphones of this caliber, software, design and quality all matter just as much, if not more.

I love the polycarbonate unibody and the design of the One X. It's extremely lightweight, feels sturdy and it looks fantastic. The Galaxy S III actually has a polycarbonate backing (despite what most people are calling just "plastic"), but it is not a unibody, nor does it have the same quality look to it. Just based on past experience with Samsung devices, my hopes aren't too high for a better build quality with the Galaxy S III. And although it's completely in the eye of the beholder, the Galaxy S III looks absolutely atrocious.
As far as internals go, the U.S. versions of the One X and Galaxy S III have the same chipset, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4. The One X comes with 1GB RAM, 16GB built-in storage, a non-removable 1,800mAh battery. The Galaxy S III comes with twice the RAM, either 16GB or 32GB built-in storage and expandable memory and a 2,100mAh removable battery. While the S III has the edge here, when it comes to specs, the display is a make-or-break feature for me. The Galaxy S III has a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display. No doubt it's a beautiful display but, there are some flaws with the PenTile Matrix subpixel layout of Samsung's panels. The HTC One X comes with a 4.7-inch S-LCD2 display at the same 720p resolution. The colors still pop, the blacks are still very inky and whites don't look like parchment when you turn the brightness all the way down.

Another big factor is software. Both run Android 4.0, but Samsung's phone comes with a new version of TouchWiz, dubbed Nature UX, which I have yet to use. It looks mostly the same as TouchWiz 4, just with some additional features. HTC's device comes with Sense 4. I never really like Sense in the past, but much to my surprise, Sense 4 has been bearable and actually pleasing to use. I have never really been a fan of TouchWiz either, and it could really go either way with Nature UX. But I know for certain I like Sense 4, and I've never truly liked anything but stock Android in the past. It's entirely possible that TouchWiz Nature UX could win me over, too. But those odds are very, very slim.

There is going to be a great divide between these two devices, I'm sure -- at least until something better comes along. And it will be interesting to see which Aaron picks in a dogfight (if or when he even does, though I'm sure he will at some point). I wouldn't feel right saying I whole-heartedly pick the One X over the Galaxy S III without having hands-on with both. But HTC really plucked at my heartstrings with polycarbonate and S-LCD2. And a long history of cheap plastics and buggy software from Samsung have me on the fence about their latest flagship.

Symbian OS is Still on Top OS in World beating iOS, Android

You know what ?
If you have Symbian Smartphone then its time to feel proud because your Symbian OS is Still world's most used OS.
This research come out from statcounter. As you can see in below graph Symbian is top OS with a 30.3% market share. Apple’s iOS come in just behind Symbian at 25.35%, and Android follows at 24.72%. BlackBerry OS has lost a lot of ground and lands at 6.8%, just ahead of Samsung at 5.06%.

In India it's shocking report, more than 61% users still using Symbian and about 3% uses Android.

First developer preview of Tizen OS - Video

Tizen OS is Intel’s last hope for a decent mobile platform. After the merger with Bada OS, the platform has made its first appearance in a video. Although it is the developer version and there are going to be loads of changes, it gives us an idea as to how the OS will feel like.


The developer device seems to be a chunky smartphone with a 720p HD display and a 1.2GHz dual-core ARM chipset, other than that there isn’t any confirmation as to what kind of specifications we might see the platform running on.

Getting back to the preview, the OS has a lot of inputs from Samsung as it is quite visible that the OS shares its DNA from Samsung’s UI that is present on its Android and Bada smartphones. All in all it is pretty much evident that the OS shaping up well and we might be seeing an official device coming up soon.

Angry Birds surpassed one billion downloads across all the platforms.

Reports are coming in from Rovio that the game has surpassed one billion downloads across all the platforms including Android, iOS, Windows and Mac OS X.




   

Rovio has been making huge profits thanks to its Angry Birds game franchise. The first game was launched in December 2009 and since then we saw Angry Birds Season, Angry Birds Rio and now Angry Birds Space rolling out and making huge money for the company.

The stats say that there are 350 million downloads were in 2012 alone and the latest Angry Birds installment, Angry Birds Space, was downloaded more than 10 million time in less than three days and about 50 million times in 35 days.

So how much profit did the company make? Well the game has made $106 million for the company in 2011 and has about 200 million active monthly users.

This handset sold 1,50,000 units in less than 13 minutes

When we think of phones breaking records, there is mostly just one company that comes to mind i.e. Apple. But it seems new players on the scene might even have Apple a run for its money.

Ahoy! The Xiaomi Mi One MiUi sold 1,50,000 handsets in 12 minutes and 41 seconds. As you might have guessed Xiaomi is not even that big of a brand. In fact, it is one of the companies successfully selling phones in China.

The MiUi was announced last years and sells in batches. This is the batch 7 we are talking about here. You must be eager to know the specs, aren’t you?

Samsung said to be planning a Windows Phone 8 version of Galaxy S III

Windows Phone has not been that successful until now due to the OS not being able to handle high specification of devices thus keeping away interested buyers but all this may be the thing of the past as today we are hearing that Samsung’s soon-to-be-unveiled Galaxy S III could be cloned to work on the upcoming Windows Phone 8 OS.

 

Yes, if rumours are to be believed, then Samsung may go on to use almost the same hardware and design of the S III in its first WP8 device which is currently being dubbed as the Samsung Focus S II. 

Now you may be wondering that the Galaxy S III is until now rumoured to be arriving with the best specs and how these would be compatible with the Windows Phone OS. But as we have got to know in earlier leaks, Windows Phone 8 will go on to bring in drastic changes to the Windows Phone ecosystem and go on to support high specs in devices enabling Samsung to bring in most of Samsung Galaxy S III’s hardware onto the WP8 world.
 

What we all do know is that the Samsung Focus S which is currently selling in the markets is an almost copy of the Galaxy S II with a few changes here and there and running on Windows Phone OS. And now this may soon be the case with the S III being brought onto the Windows Phone 8 platform with Focus S II.
 

The specs that the Samsung Focus S II may arrive with could be:

• 4.7-inch HD display
• Faster dual/quad core processor (depending on region)
• 12-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera

We all know that Samsung has lately been very much successful and become the world leader in term of device shipment pushing Nokia down to the second spot because of the success of its Galaxy line of device. And with Samsung planning to use the specs as that of the Galaxy S III (almost) to make Focus S II, it will go on to make the Focus range, the ‘Galaxy’ of Windows Phones.

LOL! Barack Obama got an Airtel connection.

Barack Obama recently got an Airtel connection in Andhra Pradesh, well not really. M Prasad, a 21 year old man from Nalgonda in Andhra Pradesh got his Airtel connection using Barack Obama's photgraph.

 Airtel activated his number, however SP of Nalgonda got to know about it and now that number is de-activated.

 

What is really funny about the the entire incident is that those sold the connection and those at the Airtel did not realize that it was the photograph of Barack Obama, or may be they just ignored.

 

Though it is funny, but it is a serious matter. As per Department of Telecom (DoT) a connection can be barred if the prescribed documents submitted to get the connection can't be verified.

 

I just hope that concerned authorities will be more careful while verifying such documents.

 

And yes, I am still laughing.

Update: Just got an update from Airtel (with another TOI link) and they said that the number in this case was never alloted to any subscriber and the same was lying with its retail outlet.  Airtel further mentioned that the number was never activated since February 2012.

So, if I go by what Airtel has claimed, then it seems that the Telecom operator in this case was not at fault.

Samsung Overtakes Nokia to Become World’s Largest Handset Maker

Fourteen Years as the undisputed king of mobile phone handset sales is coming to an end for Finnish manufacturer Nokia,
A recently released report by Research firm Strategy Analytics shows that worldwide handset shipments increased by 3% in the first quarter of this year to 368 million units. Samsung beat Nokia, becoming the world’s number one handset supplier for the first time ever.
Alex Spektor, Associate Director at Strategy Analytics, said “Volatility in the global economy, including the sovereign debt crisis in Western Europe, and a sharp decline in volumes from giant Nokia, impacted the global handset market in Q1 2012, with shipments of 368 million units representing a modest year-on-year increase of just 3%. There was strong variation among vendors, however, with Apple’s handset shipments growing by 89% annually and Nokia’s declining by 24%. The Finnish giant lost its position, to Samsung, as the number one handset vendor by volume for the first time since the 1990s.”

Again! Samsung Galaxy S3 photo leaked - now at PhoneArena.

Again new leaked photo of the upcoming Galaxy S III showed up, this time at PhoneArena.
The photo shows the device with a hardware home button with two capacitive keys on the sides in a Galaxy Nexus like rounded case with a thin bezel. Is this the real thing, we will have to wait and see. Samsung Unpacked event will be held on May 3rd in London where the Galaxy S III will be unveiled.

Co-Founder of Apple Steve Wozniak Loves His Lumia 900

We all know that Steve Wozniak is a tech hound if it has buzz around it in the tech community he buys it. He is one of the few people that has a Segway, so it was not that surprising when he bought a Nokia Lumia 900. The real question is how does it like it so far?He normally doesn’t comment on devices as a rule but he broke this rule and did an interview with aNewDomain.net’s.
So what’s the verdict on the Lumia?  This quote pretty sums it up.

 iPhone is my favorite phone. I did give my opinion that the Windows 7 phone had superior visual appearance and operation cues that were also more attractive. In my opinion, it sets the mark for user interface. I would recommend it over my Android phones given that it doesn’t yet have the breadth of apps. I surmise that Microsoft hired someone from Apple and put money into having a role in the UI and appearance of some key apps. I also surmised that Steve Jobs might have been reincarnated at MS due to a lot of what I see and feel with this phone making me think of a lot of great Apple things.”

That is a pretty glowing endorsement of Windows Phone from Woz. Naturally he wouldn’t trade his iPhone for it but that didn’t stop him from recommending it over Android.
Perhaps the most glowing endorsement is the fact that Woz surmised that “..Steve Jobs might have been reincarnated at MS due to a lot of I see and feel”

Angry Birds Space surpasses 50 million downloads

Angry Birds Space, the latest installment of Angry Birds series surpassed the 50 million downloads on all mobile platforms.

The game has hit the 50 million download mark just 35 days after launching, making it “the fastest growing game ever”.
“There’s only one conclusion to draw: something even bigger is on its way! Stay tuned and keep flinging those Birds!” –  Rovio announced on their blog, so stay tuned for more surprises from the Finish company. The original Angry Birds game, released in 2009, surpassed 700 million downloads earlier this year.
Angry Birds Space is available for iOS, Android, PC, and Mac, leaving out only Symbian and Windows Phone owners “in the dark.
